THIS SEASON'S DERBY PROSPECTS.
TWO STAYERS OF PROMISE IN EVE STABLE.
CHINESE OWNERS MAKING SPECIAL EFFort To CAPTURE BLUE RIBAND OF LOCAL TURF.
MR. "DYNASTY" HAS CLASSY CANDIDATES.
[Br" MORNING DEW.")
By the time entries close for tho] King's Justice and King's Service Annual Race Meeting, there should and I would advice readers of my be Rome seventy griffins in the notes, and training times to follow Colony eligible to race for the Derby the progress of these three animals this year. things interesting in races open to all classica.
During the last four years, the Dunbar stable has won the event three times and Mr. Ho Kom Tong once. Both stables are again strongly represented this year, the former having a formidable string the best of which appears to be Cyclamen Bay, while the latter has four grillins of which any owner might well be proud. The best of Mr. Ho Kom Tong's string appears to be Brittanic Hall, a pony which in many ways resembles President Hall, which won the Derby for a Chinese owner for the first time.
Mr. Chan Tin Sion, who secured. second place last season, has three very useful representatives in Win- derful Stag. This Chinese owner chester Stag, Wise Stag and Won- certainly has one of the beat strings in Hong Kong at the moment and he is certain to be a big factor when the annual meeting takes pince. His Derby candidates are very pro- mising, but it is a bit too early to Bay how they will shape by the end of February.
In addition to the above there are some very good animals in the smaller stables. Bonny Bridge and The Blackcock are two which look like good stayers and are moving very convincingly at the moment. I dare say in a few weeks' time either or both of these might be made the public's faney for the big race, but of course there is no telling what will happen in the next few weeks..
The Derby prospects, however, ara by no means confined to these two awners. The strongest claim for this year's honours comes from the Eve stable, which has two worthy representatives in Daylight Eve and Cloudy Eve. Both are candidates of the best class. The "Eve" stable has raced with great success in Shanghai but its success in Hong Kong has been, so far without any special feature. It Messrs. Hynos and Mackie, whose looks very much, however, as if candidate, Peppermint, chime in the Eve stable is out to establish third in last year's Derby, is again. itself here this year, as besideswell represented this year, but there theso two very classy Derby candi-is an undercurrent of belief that dates they have brought down the Derby winner is not in this first-class pony in Coronation Eve, stable, although it is in the capable which, it is reported, will give hands of one of the best trainers in Apollo and Diana Bay a good run.
the Colony, Another stable which is making a special effort this season is the Deinsty stable.
