The construction of the bridge and connecting railway, which is expected to take at least three years to complete, will secure direct com- munication between Nyasaland and the port of Beira. At the same time no extension of the railway to tap Nyasa, which has hitherto been without railway communication to the coast, is being begun. A now company, Nyasaland Railways, Ltd., has been formed to carry out these sohomes.

In addition,, the Government of Nyasaland is undertaking the im provement of the roads of the pro- tectorato and of the steamship ser- vices on Lake Nyasa. The total. cost of all these enterprises, includ. ing the construction of the bridgo į
