Portinastor - GeneralTM has agreed to receive a deputation fruar | the Union of Post Office Workers; on December 4 to discuss proposals. put forward by the Union for the reforin and development of the Post Office services,

ני

The Union advocates an exten- sive and sustained publicity cam- paign, many of the Post Office sor- viecs, it says, being quite unknown to the public.

The Union requests the introduc- tion of a comprehensive system of postal cheques modelled upon the various Continental systers, and the adoption of thy subscription system in regard to the sale and delivery' of publications, particularly in rural

Grens,

Savings Bank Interest. Other suggestions of the Union are that the rate of interest on de. cosits in the Savings Bank should be raised, and that the facilities pro vided by private banks, letters of credit and credit notes for travellers should be introduced. The present limitation on deposits should be removed and cheques on foreign banks accepted. There should be a further extension of the amount de- that may be withdrawn on mand.

The Union wants the maximum limit for the. Parcel Post in the Inland Service to be increased up to 14 lbs. or 22 lbs., and delivery accelerated by the use of motor

VATED.

A reduction on the poundage on postal orders and money orders is advocated, as well as an increase on the £40 maximum for money orders. As regards extress delivery service, it is suggested that urgent letters be dispatched by this first train available, instead of by the first ordinary dispatch. The Union wants the Post Office to absorb the London Messenger Service, and considers the present rate of 6d. per mile too high.

Inquiry Doaks,

The extension of the life assur- anco department is to be advocated at the interview, and the reversal of the decision of a former Gov. ernment not to accept new business, The unto whate a public inquiry disk in every post office. The pre- sent accommodation is described as haphazard and inadequate. It is also suggested that postmen on rumal walks 'should pay pensions to, old age pensioners to save journov ing long distances to the nearest post office, M
