PRIZE-GIVING DAY SANDAKAN LIGHT &
AT PEAK SCHOOL.
BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT BY SCHOLARS.
FULL LIST OF PRIZES,
The annual prize-giving of the Peak School wha held at the Peak Club yesterday, a large and appre- iative audience of parents and friends being present, Tho pro sentation of prizes was preceded by short dramatio entertainment given by the pupila The whole performance attained, an unusually high standard of excellence, much better than one would expect from such young artists. The concerted numbers, ainging and dancing were, all cleverly executed, but perhaps the pière de resistance of the pro- gramme was "the Pied Piper of Hamlin," an ambitious piece, but carried through from start to finish with an efficiency that would have done crédit to children of a fair more advanced ago.
The training of the children re Acets great credit on the producers who are to be congratulated on turning out such an excellent en- tertainment.
Annual Report.
The report for the year was as follows:-...
School opened on January ́s with 63, pupils and, closed on December 13 with 01 pupils. The attendance, was fairly well maintained through. out the spring and summer terins, but fell away during the Christinas term, when we had three cases of mumps. Numbers of children were kept at home for six weeks to avoid infection. Attendance and work suffered greatly as result. We elos ed school on July 11, instead of July 18, due to illness on the staff." The school in consequence re-opened-
a week earlier on September 8.
The school was visited-regularly.
by Dr. Minett and parents inform ed of tonsils, teeth, etc,, requiring. attention. Other casos, where cxer. cises would be beneficial, were treat- ed in school by Miss Jaques. In
the summer term we had one case of, trachoina and in the Christmas term, three enses of mumps, Other wise the health of the school was satisfactory.
During the year, the Inspector of Schools and the Director of Education came and inspected us. The usual end of term examinations were held and the results were very satisfactory. Reports of children, who had gone from us to schools at home werd also most entisfactory. I take this opportunity of thank- ing the Staff for their willing and nble assistance throughout the year.
