Floyd Gibbons, radio favourite and war correspondent, author of "The Red Knight of Germany," plays ar unumial role in Par aunt's picture of the rocent Byrd Antarctic expedition, soon to be reloased throughout America under the title, "With Byrd at the South

Fole."

Gibbons, himself, did not mako the trip with Byrd and therefore will not be seen at any time during: the screening of "With Byrd at the South Pole." However, he des cribes this daring flight from the moment of the gjaht"'plano's "take. off from camp at Little America, to the South Pole and back to camp again. An air pilot himself, Gib his sense of the dramatic help to hons knows the thrill of flying and

KWANGTUNG'S NEW

BRANCH RAILWAY.

LINKING UP FATSHAN AND TONG KA WAN.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRIEFUNDENT.]

CANTON, Nov. '25.

A branch line extending from Falahan to Tong Ka Wan, the pro. posed free, world port for South China, is to be added to the Canton- Samshui Railway, according to the latest decision of the Ministry of Communications at Nanking.

The distance is approximately 40 miles, and will require Бошо 87,000,000 to complete,

saya

message received by the authorities of the. Canton-Hankow Railway.

This proposed branch line will be surveyed in the course of the next few days by a group of 10 surveyora appointed for the purpose. They will be accompanied by 40 soldiers when on duty. About 20 days will be required to complete surveying, after which the actual construction

·will commencn. Owing to the com parative smoothness of the route the branch line will be completed in four months' time.

ler

According to Mr. Sun Fc, Minis- of Communications of the National Government, the idea of developing Tong Ka Wan into a world part has not been abandon- ed, as was supposed in some quart- crs. Development work will start just as soon a preparations are com ploted.

With Byrd at the South Pole" represents two years of sacrifice on the part of every man from Byrd to the driver of the dog teams.

"THE WOLF OF WALL '

STREET."

The rough and tumble, stoker of "The Docks of New York" now appears as "The Wolf of Wall Street," polished stock manipulator of the New York Stock Exchange, George Bancroft is the Wall Street financier in his latest Paramount production which opens at the Cen- tral Theatro to-day for a three days' engagement.

Bancroft has one of the beat rõles of his earcer in this picturé. He gives his latest characterization a treatment that balds one in sus- pense throughout the film.

Nancy Carroll and Arthur Han- kin have the ingenue and juvenile loads respectively, with Baclanova and Paul Lukas supporting Ban- croft in the more dramatic ma ments.

"LADY OF SCANDAL."

Cecil B. De Mille's battitubs have a rival in a bathtub used by Sidney Franklin, who directed Ruth Chat- taton in "The Lady of Scandal," a drama of British society, which will is shown to-day the Queen'a Theatre.

For this new Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer picture Franklin obtained "the most elaborate bathub. ever. built," and used it for a comedy sequence with Fred Kerr, a British actor. The elaborate design of the bathtub, is to heighten the comedy. situation of Kerr singing in it.

It is essential, according to Mr. S

Bun, that there should be a rail- road connecting the proposed free Fort with Canton and other com- inercial "contres in the interior of Kwangtung.
