Business during the past week, despite the interruption caused by a Bank holiday on Tuesday Inst, has been fairly brisk and a cheerful tone has prevailed in most sections of the local market. Lands and Public Utility. shares were parti- cularly netive, while all investment Blacks were in good demand and bunyanry was again in evidence,

Banks. With a rise of £3 108. in the London price to £113 10. (Middle), Hong Kong and Shanghai Banks have strengthened locally, and buyers are now offering 81.40s without menting with any response. Marine and Fire Insurances. Unions were realised again at 8472 and $473 and more can be placed at the former rate. Cantons have hardened steadily to $1,115. Hong Kong Fires have likewise strength- ened and, cnu be placed at 81.10. China Fires are enquired for at 4. Underwriters were hooked at the improved quotation of 23.
