The market has shown a loir amount of activity, and in many cases prices have improved during the work. Although the volume of business has not been very groat, there appears to be more enquiry towards the close with few, sellers in evidence, and the undertone is distinctly firm.

Banks-Hong Kong and Shanghai Banks opened with sales at $1,620, but a somewhat better demand for the shares has raised the price to $1,540. The London quotation is unchanged at £109. ·

Marine and Fire Insurancea Unions were taken off the market at rates between 8115 and 8450, Cantons continuo, in request at $1.080. China Fires can be placed at 8400. Hong Kong Fires are quiet but steady at 81.080. Underwriters are enquired foat $2.80 after sales int this rate.
