PACKS AND MASSAGE

THAT RENOVATE.

Much has been written about mud packs, and much more remains in be written. Probably the best we can say about them is that thoy promote a healthy circulation of the underlying tissues, and they are useful in cases where the complexion in Baliów.

In addition, they make the akin glow and give it that youthful freshness which in so loved by all

women.

Of course, some complexions will show up better than others; this is only to be expected; but oven under the best conditions the good effects

of a mud pack will not last n long time, and it has been pointed out that the treatment should be given frequently.

It is usually carried out several hours before going out to a dance, party, or other entertainment, and

the good effects will last through- out the evening, and, in a lesser degree, for several days afterwards.

In a week or ten days it is advis able to apply the mud pack again, so that if another special evening's entertainment be contemplated the work will be carried out that after- noon or early in the evening.

The frequent use of mud packs may become rather expensive for some people, and they may be anxious to make the mud paste at home.

This is easily done by mixing about equal parts of finest sterilised fullor's earth with some thin starch paste at least sufficient of the latter to form a soft paste that will spread over the face fairly evenly.

To avery half-pound of this mix- ture add a couple of tenspoonfuls of glycerine and four teaspoonfuls of simple tincture of benzoin. As much as twenty-five drops of some favourite porfume may be mixed, first with the tincture of benzine and glycerine, and then kneaded into the mas

The treatment may be carried out in steps as follows:-Remove all make-up with cleansing cream, and use a cleansing lotion to get rid of all grease, or wash with warm water and soap, using plenty of worm water to get rid of all soap from the face.

Then apply warm towels to the face to open the pores; spread the mud paste with the finger tips even- ly over the face and leave it to dry. Do not rub the paste into the skin.

After twenty minutes or so re. move the mask with a warm towel or cloth wrung out of moderately hot water. Bathe the face with a lotion consisting of equal parts of elderflower water and witch-hazel, then finish off with a good vanishing cream and powder,

It is often a good plan, where there is time, to massage the face for ten minutes or so with a skin' food-before using the vanishing

EXIT FREAK FASHIONS

FROM DEAUVILLE,

Deauville has always prided itself on being the most ostentatious casino town in the world. During past seasons there have always been higher gainbling, more flashing jewellery, and more freak fashions to be seen horo than anywhere else on the Continent.

This season Frenchwomen have stopped showing off. They have put away their jewelery, and instead of exhibiting the freak fashions that used to give English and American visitors the feeling that they word getting their money's worth, this nummer Frenchwomen are wearing clothes similar to those worn by tho English and American women them- selves.

You cannot tell the French women, the Americans or the Eng- lish women apart. They all wear beautifully cut crêpe de chine or with long sudde satin evening gowns gloves to match.

Most of these dresses häve narrow waist belts of the como material worn tight around the waist, and many of them have strappings or a kind of braces, also of the material, that form the décolletage at the back.. Otherwis they are made very simply with nokle length skirts.. Trailing pieces and panels or skirts. that sweep the floor are not worn.
