We believe that the Society for the Ministry of Women (of which Miss Royner is President) claims that the services of women should be accepted in all offices of the Church under the same con- ditions as now apply to men. That certainly would be a wide open door, but that is not the extent to which the Bishops have yielded to women's demands. Nor did they give any indication of any inten- tion to open the down more widely. The Order of Deaconess is for women the one and only Order of the ministry which we can recom- mend our branch of the Catholic Church to recognise and use. The *' one and only "' order; the ancient barrier against ordination is not removed, and while it remains the door of the Church cannot be accurately described as " wide open to women and their peculiar and priceless gifts for service. wood.
