TAMED A HORSE TO WIN A BRIDE.

MILLIONAIRE KILLS HIMSELF:

A millionaire who won his bride. by a daring deed worthy of the fairy princes in the tales of Hans Anderson, has now taken his life in illness and despair.

He is Mr. William E. Swift, aged thirty-five, the millionaire son of Mr. Louis F. Swift, the millionaire meat packer of Chicago, who com- mitted suicide Inst month at the Cowles Private. Sanatorium, New York, where the police say he has been under treatment for brain in- flammation, pneumonia, and alco holism.

Mr. Swift leaped from his hed and tried to throw himself from the window, but he was restrained by a male nurse, who put him back to bed.

A little later he drew a revolver from under his pillow and shot him. self dead:

He had been ill and despondent for the past two years

Mr. William Swift some years ago won his bride, Miss Helen Morton, daughter of another millionaire, by riding a coal-black outlaw" borse which no one had succeeded in rid- ing before.

Missforton was flung off the horse and badly bruised, and then offered & reward to any one who could ride him

I believe I would marry the man who can ride Firefly," she said one day. Six' stablemen managed to saddle the horse, and Louis Swift, the elder son, tried to mount him and win the prize.

But Firefly dashed away with him clinging to the saddle, and he was flung to the ground.

Next day William Swift, never régarded as an exceptional horse man, succeeded in riding the horse up and down the estate, and in keeping his seat

He claimed his reward, and the marriage followed,

Mr. Louis Swift, the dead man's father. was the host of the Prince of Wales during his visit to Chicago in 1924, NA WA

His engagement was announced in 1923 to Mme. Claire Dux, the Polich grand opera star.
