TENNIS KIT.

Tennis enthusiasts will ɓnd that they must no longer show their knees-if, they wish to be. smart. Not only do skirts cover the knees in the morning, reach the ankles in the afternoon, and sweep the floor in the evening, but even for practical sports wear they are de- cidedly longer.

The cure requires the co-opera- tion of the will in carrying it through, and a good deal of persist- ence; but it can be done."

Reversing the Order. First, take stock of yourself, and then consider carefully what foods you eat and how much exercise you take. If you find that you take too much food and too little, exercise, it is a simple matter to reverse the order of things!

As regards the local treatment-- massage plays the chief part, but it must be done in conjunction with diet. This need not be exceedingly strict, but it must be adhered to faithfully.

Rich pastries, chocolates and other sweets should be given up; and soup, which is fatal to any one who is inclined to an excess of fat, must be cut out entirely. A light, sustaining diet is necessary if the normal contours of the body are to be maintained.

Talcum powder is the best medium for massaging the chin, which should be done for five minutes night and morning.

Begin at the point of the chin, place both thumbs beneath, and gently but firmly work round to the back of the neck with slow pressing

strokes.

Then with a circular movement, massage directly under the chin with the ball of the thumb, 'ävoid- ing the glands entirely while doing so.

The Final Touch.

This whole-hearted enthusiasm for plauded by those responsible for. a scientific fact cannot but be ap

public health.

But this very enthusiasm tends at times to become, a danger. Ond somehow instinctively feels that it is impossible to have too much of a good thing, especially when this is applied to sunlight.

It is, however, very possible to have too much of this commodity and there are certain rules about sun-bathing"which should be known

everyone fortunate enough to bo in a position to indulge in it.

Blondes, Beware!

For example, the time of exposure of the body to the sun should at first be short-say, 11 to 15 minutes. It may be increased each day by

about 10 minutes.

The head and back of the neck should be protected, and especially should this precaution be taken with children:

Fair people react more strongly to sunlight than dark people, and consequently should exercise mare care regarding the time of exposure.

Also those who do not perspire freels are more liable to harmful effects than others...

Those who ignore these elemen- tary rules may suffer from the effects of the sun in two wayi.. A feeling of faintness combined with re the usual first a headache

Last, with the back of the fingers, pat in an astringent lotion such as symptoms of over-exposure. Rest witch-hazel, and put a large pocket-in a dark room and cold applica handkerchief-folded on the cross, tions to the head and the spine and moistened in the centre with will quickly effect an improvement cold water-underneath the chin, in this condition. and tie it on the crown of the head.

The bandage should be fairly tight but not uncomfortable, and should remain on as long as is conveniently possible.

Easing the Pain,

The second and more common ill- effect of sunlight is sunburn. The burn may be so severe as to cause blisters, and the condition is a painful one, indeed.

It is really rather extraordinary that we women are so entirely under the thumbs of the autocratic dress designers. They merely say we are to wear a certain thing, and we Those who follow out this simple wear it, although probably we vow advice will find that their double for weeks beforehand that nothing chins will disappear as mysterious-it on earth will ever make us conscntly as they came. to look such frights. Is it that we see everybody else wearing it and are afraid to be conspicuous? Or

do these clever people gradually win us over to liking their new ideas!

Quite a number of tennis frocks this season are made in colours, pale pastel shades with little coats to match, or sometimes a combina- tion of white and a colour: white frock, however, always looks well with a coloured belt and ban deau to match.

The craze for getting deeply sun- burnt has had its day. This is all to the good, for it will ensure a more careful exposure of its body to the sun's rays, the prevention of disfiguring pigmentations of the skin, and the saving of a great deal
