New York, June 23.-Price move- ments on the New York Stock Ex-Di Pont de Somears... change to-day were bewildering, says the daily review of the Dow Jones Financial News Agency.

Bears Lammered U.S. Steel to a level below 150. Steel was, however, supported and it roached and for a short time exceeded 1331, the clos ing figure, which was 93 above the closing quotation for yesterday. Bethlehem closed at 77 up American Rolling Mill closed up 3 to 333 and American Waterworks closed up to $21.

The market ia general followed the movements of US. Steel, alter nately rising and falling, with the Dow Jones average, for 30 indus- trials showing a rise of 3.74, to 215.38, for the day. Westinghouse rose 33 to close at 131; General Electric, was up to a close of 632; American Can closed up three points to 113); Eastman Kodak rose 3 to close at 751; Commercial Solvents rose to close at 21; Union Carbide rose to 641; and Curtiss Wright common was up half a point to 6

The Market for Raila, Many rails reached now low re- cords for 1930 and the Dow Jones Average for 20 rails was off .9% to 195.03. New York Centrai closed up 1 to 1333; Pennslyvania was off an eighth to 701; Erie was off to 364; Canadian Pacife declined 4 to 1841; Rock Island was off 31. to 951; B. & 0. was up to 100); and Union Pacific was off three points to 902, only two points over the

1929 low.

Most of the active stocks closed higher..

The Dow Jones average for 20 utilities was up to 78. American Tel. & Tel was up 1 to 204), and International Tel. Tel. rose 1 to close at 41%. Radio Corp. was up 2 to 253. Columbia Gas gain- ed half a point to close at 60); Consolidated Gas rose 1 to 1011: Southern California Edison was off a point to 63; and Standard Gas was up 1 to 882.

Warner Bros. Pictures rose a quarter-point to close at 404; Fox Film "A" was up 1 to 401; and Paramount Famous Lasky was off half a point to 531.

General Electric was up 1 to 031; Packard was 'off an eighth to 13: Alack Trucks declined 2 to 51; and Chrysler was up to 235.

F.O.B. Saigon Shipment June/July... Paddy-Mills are well supplied, and arrivals from the interios cannot and any buyers. However, prices are firmly kept up.

At the beginning of the week newspapers published an officia circular from the Government prescribing measures to be taken in order to avoid an eventual lack of paddy before the coming of the new crop, and to prevent a rise in prices.

A few days ago, it was rumoured that the Government was pro- pasing to increase the export duties in order to force prices down.

Up to now nothing definite has come to our knowledge.

The high prices quoted weigh heavily on every line of business. here, and are the direct cause of the uneasiness of our market.
