Bowlers were generally on top in the mid-week programme of County cricket matches which concluded on Friday. With the exception of the match between Somerset and Notts at Taunton, where Somerset gained a first inaings' victory, all the matches were played to a finish.

Batting first, Gloucester declared their innings closed at 204 runs for five wickets, Dacre being beaten when he was five runs below the century. Middlesex replied with 155
runs.
In the second innings Gloucester lost all wickets for 151 runs against the bowling of Russell; who took seven for 43, A worse collapse followed for Middlesex, who made only 180 runs. Parker, as in the first inpings, accounted for many of the Middlesex wickets.

On the first day of play, Surrey scored 162 and the Australians had Continuing 331 for five wickets their innings, the Australians added 57 runs and declared. Needing 26 to avert an inaings defeat, Surrey stood up confidently to the bowling to score 249 for two wickets when stumps were drawn. Hobbs (146) and Shepherd (65) were then at the wickets.

GOOD BOWLING FEATS. On their own ground, Leicester- shire lost to Worcester by 43 runs.
Poor scores were recorded on both sides in this match where good. bowling averages were returned, the best being Coleman's four for 17. against Worcester in their first innings which produced' 127 runa.
