"BOBBY" JONES SHOWS THE WAY.

LONDON, June 19. - The Open Golf Championship was resumed at Hoylake to-day when a crowd of 8,000 spectators followed some of the players.

Jones Regains Leadership. Bobby Jones played faultes golf to-day and retained the lead by returning a card for the 30 holes of 142. He followed up his record 70 with a 79 to-day,

Horton Smith pulled up to 143, boing 73 for the second eighteen.

Cotton dropped back, however, and failed ty nine strokes to equal his previous performance.

Cotton was unable to keep out of the rough and he took five at the He went aith, sixth and eighth. out in 41 and came in with a 38...

Cyril Tolley's Brilliance. MacDonald Smith went out in 40. He had a vix at the fourth bole and was four at the short seventh. He recovered later on, though, sad came in with a total of 77.

Jim Harzes suffered from faulty driving when he was coming in and he prejudiced his chances by return ing a card of 77 after his former round of 71.

The day's best round was, that of Cyril Tolley, who did the 18 in 71, heing ane stroke better than' Bobby Jonce.

Jones, took five at the first hale rnd six at the long third, where he pulled his shot into a clump of rushes. After this, however, he vas dead true with his shots and He got an occasional "birdie." never exceeded par and was up- roariously cheered on gaining the leadership.

Robson Raises British Hopes. Robson stikened the weakening "super- British challenge with. kative two finder fours up to the thirteenth. Later on he caly want- ed two fours to tie Jones, but he was too sparing with his approach shot at the fifth, where he went down in five. He missed a putt by two inches at the eighteenth for a three.

The outstanding failures to-day included Van Elm, who was 160, Major Hezlat 163 and George Dun- can 101.

LONDON, June 20. Amid scenes of the wildest excite ment and cheering, in the third round, Archie Competon, Britain's chief hope, snatched the lead from Bobby Jones with a brilliant record breaking round of 68, making his card for the three rounds 915.

Replying to the Commission's ne- tion, Jack Sharkey offers to sign up for a return match immediately, taking 12 per cent, of the receipts against Schmeling's 37 per cent. if he fouls the German.

Sharkey offers to pay the ex- penses of the preliminaries plus! overhead charges for a third. If he is fouled he says he will not accept the decision.

New York June 13-Throughout the United States argument was raging to-day concerning the out come of last night's heavyweight championship fight. In almost all quarters, however, it is conceded that the blow struck by Jack Shur- key was low.
