A Cycle Accident.

She came home one day and told us of an accident she had had on her bicycle.

The brakes failed when she was | consting down a terribly steep hill, a straggling lane that was not a public road at all, and she sudden- ly saw that she was in danger of crashing into a gate.

She steered the bicycle into the wire fence at the side of the road, and was thrown over, a high hedge. She explained that she landed on soft earth and only had a few bruises.

Father scolded her, but Amy simply said, "What would you have done and father replied, "I would not have gone riding along such a road."

I cannot help making a heroine of my sister. She is just the kind of girl for a flight to Australia. We know she is just the girl to brave the danger. of such a flight. When she was last home I asked her "what she would do if forced to land in a savage country and some really nasty Arabs tried to capture her.

Handy With Her Fists

We then pretended that the drawing-room was the desert, and uncle and myself were hostile Arabs.

We made a rush at Amy, Amy seized my arm and the next! moment I was on the floor. She gave father a punch that sent him fying across the room, and treated uncle to some jiu-jitsu. Within a few seconds we were all laughing on the floor.

"That is what I shall do to any body who tries any nonsense with me," said Amy, and if that is not enough they will get something from this"

Amy became a good revolver shot by practising at the aerod- rome, potting bottles and jars. She also learned a few tricks of jíu- jitsu and became handy with her

There is another question that is being asked me by some of our friends. They are hinting at Amy marrying after the flight is over. Now that' is Amy's affair entirely, but can assure you that she is far too intent on an air career to bother about men. She is not in- terested in that kind of romance- yet.

She find, romance in" fiving and in doing things that are difficult.

I adore Amy-we all do-and I hope she will not stay too long in Australia. Oh, how I long for the day when mother and father and my little sister Betty go down to London to welcome Amy home.
