CENTRAL THEATRE. ROUND THE COURTS. BUILDING ON SAND.

OPENING THIS AFTERNOON.

PRE-VIEW FOR THE LOCAL

PRESS...

Through the courtesy of the man- agement, members of the Press were invited to a pre-view of "The Love Parade" at the Central Theatre yesterday, and our representative, who was present, writes that he was very favourably impressed with the sound production, the film itself, and last, but not the least, the building.

There was a little dalay at the start of the exhibition, but the audience was soon put in good humour with a "eat" comedy, fol- lowed by Paramount's News Reel, both of these being sound filma. Of the "main" item, our repre- sentative writes:-

The story opens in Paris, where Count Alfred (Maurice Chevalier) is the military attache of the small kingdom of Sylvania, and whilst in the midst of a party given at his Hat, he receives a message to the effect that owing to his scandalous behaviour with women, the Queen of Sylvania (Jeanette Macdonald) demands his immediate return to his own country.

A' DISHONEST EMPLOYEE.

A Chinese employce of a firewood dealer's shop in Kowloon City was charged before Mr. T. S. Whyte- Smith at Kowloon Magistracy yes- terday with stealing $400 and a quantity of jewellery valued at 8130 from his master's shop. Another man and a woman were also charged with receiving stolen property.

It was stated that the defendant stole the money and jewellery dur- ing his master's absence and, dividing the loot between the other two defendants, made an attempt to leave the Colony, but were arrested on boarding the Canton steamer. The master of the shop suspected, that the defendant had stolew the money and that he would attempt to return to his native village. He therefore, informed the police, who waited for the defendant at the Canton wharf..

The first defendant was sentenced to five months' hard labour, the second defendant to two months' hard labour and the woman was fined 850.

BIRD'S NEST PILLAGED...

The defendant was arrested by an Indian constable, who noticed two men loitering under the tree and later saw one of the them climb the tree and hand three birds to the man on the ground.

The defendant, in answer to the Magistrate, said that he wanted the birds because they were known as Lam Ngan Hex and renowned for their singing powers.

The unal thing happens, and so taken with this charming young officer is the Queen, that she falls in love with and marries him.

Complications then set ia, as after the marriage the young count realises that the very fact that he is the husband of a queer does not give him a lot of happiness, and the climax is reached when he re- fuses to obey her command, one night, to accompany her to the opera and threatens to divorce her. The queen then goes to the opera alons, and, after a while, she is sur prised to find that her husband has made his appearance in the royal box, after all, and he is greeted by loud and prolonged cheers from the audience:

He begins immediately to act in an independent manner, making comments on the dancing and the dancers, and commanding the qucea to smile and appear in the best of humours, just as she used to com- mand him.
