Power for the propulsion of the rocket through space will be provided by the igniting of a special hydrogen gas composition that Professor Oberth himself has invented. The gas will burn for 80 seconds at the start and Professor Oberth hopes that the resultant prolonged explosion will give the device a starting speed of 4,000 yards a second. The oven of the rocket, where the explosion takes place. is fitted with a cooling arrangement to prevent melting of the metal from which the rocket, is made. Another part of the rocket

Journey to Moon Feasible. While Professor Oberth would be most happy to see his present rocket reach an altitude of 30 kilometers, his ultitude goal is, of course, the construction of a rocket that will get to the Moon. That it is uo impossible Professor Oberth is cer- tain, but as to its practicality the professor wishes at the moment to remain silent. One of the most enthusiastic supporters of the idea, Robert Eanault-Pelterie, a French scientist, has taken a fracker view. He is confident that "within ten

WRONG MAN IN THE

DOCK.

SURRENDERED FOR HIS

BROTHER.

"You will sit in the dock until you have explained how you have got the impertinence to come into the dock when you are not charg- ed." said the Liverpool Recorder (Mr. E. G. Hemmerde, K.C.) to a man who appeared in the dock at the Liverpool Quarter Sessions last month. When three charges of workshop breaking were read out the man in the dock said he wax not the man charged.

The Recorder; What are you came with my doing here --I brother.

Is your brother charged -Yes. Where is he 1-I do not know. 'I think he is upstairs.

It was explained by a warder that the man had surrendered for his brother who was on bail.

"Have you brought any other. members of the family to sit in the dock with you?" asked the Re- corder, who said he would play the joke out.

J

A few minutes later the man left the dock with a policeman to find his brother.

Subsequently another man, named James McDonald, appeared in the dock and apawered the description on the calendar.

The Recorder: I understand you

thought the Quarter Sessions were to-morrow.

McDonald: Yes, sir, -

McDonald pleaded guilty to the charges of workshop breaking. Mr. W. J. Loughrey, prosecuting, said tools and instruments valued at £15 had been taken by the accused.

McDonald, in appeal from the dock, said he had been out of work for 18 months, and morning after- Liverpool and got nothing., morning he had searched all over "Un- employment is sapping vitality and morali," added McDonald,
