Further questioned by Mr. Mar- ton, witness said that according to hi menaurements, the vessel had a draught 10 feet 3 inches for- word and 11 feet 2 inches aft.

Witness then went on to explain how he took his readings that night. He said that when he examined the port side, he had a foot on the wharf and the other on the feuder of the vessel. He could see very well, as he had a powerful torch with him then. Further discussion followed as regards witness's ex- amination of the marks, during the course of which Mr. Lowe negatived Mr. Marton's suggestion that he could not see very well.
