Gossip often mover the market, but no incestur should either bug or sell on market gossip only. ·

There has been a good deal of excitement in the sbare market during the past week, consequently the only thing to report is a steady rise in prices in almost every stock. There appears to be plenty of loose money available for share business, "and this has had the effect of rais- ing some stocks to what might be fairly called a dangerous

"level. The demand, however, is still very strong, owing to the glut of money in the market, but genuine inves tors would do well to wait until the rutes recede slightly before doing anything.

The volume of business reported has been fairly large, our reason. being rumours about the Tram- Hotel Bus deal, which has led to much speculation in both stocks. What the outcome of the negotia- tions is, we shall know this week after the Tramway meeting, but in the meantime the brokers have had a good "whack" of commission out of those who are willing to take a chance with these stocks. The demand in Tramway shares eased off somewhat during the week, and there are not a few in the market who feel that even at present prices they appear to be slightly inflated.

The Shanghai market appears to have been fairly quiet. Ewas have heen standing around T, 13.30 and T. 13.23 for quite a while. not ven any improvement in this stock, or for that inatter in the Shanghai market, until the sum mer is nearly over.

HONG KONG BANKS have been handled in small quantities at This figure $1.400 and $1,405. seems at the moment to be very high, but there are still buyers in the market at $1,400 and sellers are holding out for $1,410. They will probably get it!

CANTON INSURANCES wanted at $880, but are not easy A few shares changed to find. hands during the week at 8860, and since then buyers' ¡deda have gons up.

UNION INSURANCES: Quite.a large number of shares changed hands at various rates between $440 and $470. There are further buyers at the latter figure.

CHINA UNDERWRITERS are wanted at $1.30, after sales "bad been affected at $1.40.

KOWLOON WHARVES took a bit of jump, and after sales were reputed at 8137 to $162 closed for the week-end with buyers at the latter figure. They will probably ge higher this week.

CHINA. PROVIDENTS: Shares are wanted at 85.40, but do not appear to be plentiful.

HONG KONG HOTELS been the medium of a fairly large business at various rates between 812.65 and 812.90. A big forward business was also done in this stock for June at 813 and 813:15. The closing cash rate was $12.65 buyers and 812.75 sellers.

HONG KONG REALTIES took sharp jump on the strength of a ramour that they are selling cer- tain property. A very large num ber of shares have changed hands, at 89.25 to $9.60, and there were still buyers in the market on Satur- day at the latter_figurs....

TRAMWAYS suffered a further setback, and shares have been done at rates varying between 20.40 to 888.80. Sellers were asking $21 á the close of the week. A big for ward business has been done in these shares.

STAR FERRIES also had a sharp rise, and sales took place during I think the week at 377 to $80. there are further buyers at the lat ter rate.

CHINA LIGHTS have also been the medium of a very large busi ness at improved rates. Cash shares changed hands at: $24 to 20. Old shares are still wanted at. the latter figure.

CHIN CHIN-I agree that the, price is rather high, but if the rate is going to be maintained I do not see the need for rushing out of your holdings. Better wait for a good rate.
