BURNLEY AND EVERTON DROP OUT OF THE FIRST
DIVISION.
PROMOTION FOR BLACKPOOL AND CHELSEA.
LEAGUE SEASON COMPLETED..
Home football closed its season on Saturday, when promotion and relegation matters were finally decided. Sheffield Wednesday won the League Championship again and improved on their last season's final position, when they gained 32 points with 24 goals in their favour. This senson they scored 60 points and they had 48 A total of 60 points goals more than were scored against them. was the highest ever recorded in the First Division of the English League. West Bromwich Albion gained this number of points in the 1015-20 season, and Liverpool three years later.
In the relegation, struggle between five teams at the bottom of the First Division, all won their matches, leaving Burnley and Everton to drop out. Blackpool and Chelsea move up to the First Division. The latter lost on Saturday, but they qualified for pro- motion owing to Oldham's defeat Bristol City and Hull finished' at the bottom of the Second Division, Plymouth and Port Vale, taking their place,, Merthyr and Barrow are the wooden-spoonists of the Third Division.
Two matches still remain to be completed in the Scottish Keague.
