TRANSPORT PROBLEMS.

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONG KONG DAILY PRESS,"]

Sta. Mr. Bellamy's letter in your edition of this morning my nasumption aa to the possibility. of the conversion of the present ears of the Trimway Company for use in the suggested rail-less trolley system, has been duly noted.

I apologise for my ignorance in things mechanical," and am also sorry of anything which I may have said in my communications to your paper should have lead Mr. Bellamy to infer that I had know. ledge on the points brought up. Supermen are few and far be- tween; and everyone cannot be ex- pected to have specialised in tram way traffic requirements.

My interest in the Tramway Company is purely financial and from the point of view of an in- vestor; and my enquiries and re- marks were entirely from that point of view-prompted by the comments which are being made about town in regard to the tram. way interests, and from the re- marks let fall by the Chairman at the last general meeting of the Company.

The letter appearing in your columns this morning (right after Mr. Bellamy's communication). subscribed to by "Another Share- holder," appears to about hit the nail on the head.

.

There appears to be quite a con- troversy and a diversity of opinion as to just what is required to be done to make the tramways a better paying proposition.

Without, therefore, casting any aspersions or reflections on Mr. Bellamy as an expert on tramways, on the theory that two heads are better than one I certainly endorse the opinion given voice to by "An- other Shareholder" in his letter, when he suggests that the Tram ways Board should be petitioned to bring out an expert, unprejudiced in traffic matters, to make a report as to the future policy of the Com- pany. Commending this to the attention of the Board of Direc tors Yours, etc.,

A SHAREHOLDER.. HONG KONG, April 9.

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONG KONG

DAILY PREBR."

Sin, Since complaints about the tramways seem to be de rigeur at the moment, I shall be very much obliged if you will let me ask the following questions, through the columns of your valuable paper:- Why is it, since they are operated by the same Company, that bolders uf monthly tram-tickets are allowed to use them on the Tram way Company's 'buses ?

not

When, if ever, are they going to Bee, that the conductors on the 'buses are supplied with a certain amount of loose money, so that, when a passenger tenders a dollar note in payment for his fare; they' can give him change instead of turning him off the vehicle 1

Cannot they keep the 'buses in good order, so that there will not be any unnecessary bumping and shak- ing when riding in them?

And finally, it seems a pity that the buses only run from Happy Valley and Taikoo to the Post Office. The terminus used to be at or near the Western Market same. time ago; "why was that discon tinued 1-Yours, etc.,

F.M. Howe Koxo, April 9.
