In view of the departure next- week of the Chief Justice, Sir Henry Gollan, the members of the legal profession will assemble at the Supreme Court at 3 o'clock this afternoon to pay their respects and to make a presentation.

Another presentation will be made later in chambers by the staff of the Supreme Court.

A farewell dinner will be givens to Sir Henry by the Chinese, mem- isers of the Legislative Council on Saturday evening at the Kam Ling Restaurant, West Point.

The senior boys took charge of companies of pupils, and while awaiting the arrival of the Brain- tre and Dunmow fire brigades, some miles away, the boys dragged out the hand pump, pails, ladders aad hose, the school's fire-fighting apparatus, and attacked the Hames. They concentrated on preventing the fire from spreading.

It was an hour and a half before the Braintree Fire Brigade, which had been attending another fire, arrived on the scene. The Dun mow brigade followed half an hour later.

The hall by this time was a maз8 of flames. The fire had broken through to the roof, and spread to the school annexe "at the hack of the hall.

The boys had kept the pump go ing continuously for two hours. Twelve lads pumped furiously for five minutes, then stepped back while another twelve took their places, and so on until dawn. While they pumped they shouted school calls and songs,"
