The local market has been very active and shows an all round m- provement -after the fairly largo "March Settlement Inst Tuesday. Changes in quotations were mostly favourable, particularly in the Public Utility section. There seems to be a feeling of confidence, and, with money to ensy in the Colony, the public is looking forward to further improvement in prices.

Banks-Hong Kong and Shang- hai Banka have advanced to £119 (Middle) in London, and after local sales early in the week at 81,385, the market has improved and closed with buyers at 81,390,

Marine and Fire Insurances. Deals were made in Uniona at 8401/402, but a strong demand for the shares has since raised the price to 8415. Cantons were bid up to 8790. Hong Kong Tires can be placed at the enhanced price of $875 ex the dividend of $47 just paid. Underwriters were sold at
