MORE RECRUITS WANTED.
Major-General J. W. Sandilands, C.B., C.M.O., D.S.O., yesterday inspected the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, nt the Murray Parade Ground. Over 400 strong mustered and a large crowd watched
the proceedings. All the mayements were efficiently executed and the Corps made a very, amart turn out.
The G.O.C, expressed satisfaction at the general efficiency of the force, but remarked that it was regrettablo that more of the young men of Hong Kong did not join the force.
Major-General Sandilands suggest- ed that the ex-members of the K.O.S.B. who are now in "civilian jobs here should join the Volum teers.
A tribute was paid by the G.0.0. to the example set by Colonel Bird, who in spite of being a busy man, continued to render loyal service to the Colonial Government.
The volunteers arrived at Murray Parade Ground at a quarter to six bended by the Corps' Band. The battalion lined up in two ranks right across the parade ground, with intervals between each com- pany No. 1 Company under the command of Capt. T. M. Thornhill, consisting of The Battery, Armoured Car Company, Engineer Company and the Corps Signals was nearest Queen's Road.
