I must pause one moment to deplore the death of my old friend Sir Henry Gompertz. He was at Bedford with me and we both play- ed football for the Bromham

House. As probably most of you know, he only died the other day, abortly after his retirement as "Chief Justice of the F.M.S., much beloved by all who knew him. His widow and his sons must bave our deep sympathy.

A Distinguished 0.3. I much regret that a distinguish ed old Bedfordian is unable to be with us here to-night, I refer to Mr. Cecil Hynes, the retiring Chief Manager of that great institution, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank. He has certainly added lustre to the record of 0.Bs. in the Far East.
