SCOTLAND YARD'S NEW♪

PROBLEM.

WOMEN MORE CLEVER TILAN MEN.

More and more women, oficial statistics reveal, are taking part in recent criminal developments, such as country-mansion raids and street handbag-snatching.

For nearly two years, Scotland Yard inquiries have established, the number of these women erimin- als has steadily increased.

A police official discussing the problem said:-

"It is not only the increase in the number of women criminals we have to contend with, but the fact that the majority of them have considerable ability.

111

They have improved by ten times on the old methods still prac tised by men confederates. Unlikel the men, they are not, satisfied with one type of crime; they try their hand at everything.

"If this state of affairs continues crime in this country may assume a different aspect within

few years.'

Two women, for whom Scotland Yard are searching, act as "scouts" for a gang of motor handits. When the gang halt in a lane near a resi dence which promises & safe har vest, the women reconnoitre in the rounds to find the best way of entering the house and the quickest method of getting away.... Thea they return to the car and net as guides to their men confederates.

LESSON SERMON.

FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, SCIENTIST: HONG KONG.

"Man" was the subject of the Lesson-Bermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, March B.

The Golden Text was: "Blessed is the man whom thou chooseat, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: wo shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy tem- ple" (Pa 854).

Among the citations which com- prised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God said. Let as make man in our image, after our likencas and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea. and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over, every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, Bo god created man in his own ir- age, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them" (Gen. 1: 1, 20, 27).

The Lesson-Bermon also includ- ed the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his an. cestry....Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being. God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being (p. 3).

stolen.

The State Tax Commission in 1095 ordered a reassessment of Cook County and the work is stil. in. progress, tentative figures showing n reduction of 8400,000,000 in Chi- cago and an increase of 8300,000,000 in the smaller suburban towns. The latter are fighting this increase and meanwhile real estate taxes cannot be collected before summer.

INDIAN REGALIA -FOR COOLIDGE.

PART OF CEREMONY IN THE DEDICATION OF NEW DAM.

[UNITED PAZAS.]

Mr.

Globe, Ariz, March, 3.- Calvin Coolidge will once more don indinn regalia and face the Press cameras to-morrow.

When he did this as part of his Black Hills vacation from the Pre- sidency two years ago, it brought a considerable measure of ridicule because it was interpreted as a pub- licity stunt" ill adapted to the somewhat dour Coolidge character.

But indications are that to-mor- row's ceremonies will be popular all around, for they are planned as part of the dedication of the Collidge Dams project expected to bring great benefit to this part of the country.

Indians, pioneers and prosper. torg have flocked into Globe for the festivities and they will compose a colourful group of spectators when the Pima Tadians conduct their "ceremonial making the for- mer President a chief of their -tribe.
