PUNTERS DO WELL AT FIRST EXTRA

·RACE MEETING.

FAVOURITES SHARE HONOURS WITH OUTSIDERS: SOME HANDSOME DIVIDENDS PAID BY THE TOTE,

JOCKEY SUSPENDED FOLLOWING ACCIDENT IN SIXTH RACE.

FULL DETAILS OF SATURDAY'S RACING.

{BY "MORNING DEW."]

The outstanding feature of the First "Extra" Race Meeting was the satisfactory odds paid by the tote. Punters varied in their fancy considerably, with the result that some very handsome dividends were paid.

Amusement Tax, for instance, a pony "tipped" to win in this paper, paid his supporters over 10-1." Erin's Isle paid 17-1 and Place King's Colour in the last race paid his supporters 16-1. dividends were also satisfactory.

Adam won the First Extra Meeting Stakes, the principal event on the card. The field. of five which faced the starter in this race over the mile choce to make a shorter race of it and the result was that the times registered for the opening quarters were Blow. Chesapeake Bay got second place, beating "Majestic Hall, who was very well fancied.

In the sixth race, Mr. Y. M. Loo on Empress Hall was badly thrown, sustaining injuries to his head and neck. He did not get up for a time but was later able to return to the jockeys' room with assistance. Mr. Ho Sai Man, who broke bis stirrups in this race, was also thrown.

An inquiry was held into the riding in this race and as a result Mr. R. H. Charles was suspended from riding for the rest of this month.

February Stakes: Five Furlongs.

At the Rock, The Tiger took the lead and coming into the straight Lobater Bay challenged the leader, but could make no impression on him. The Tiger won by a length and a half. Lobster Bay was half a length better than Silver Queen.

Mr. Ho Sai Man was thrown in the straight by Shiny Pearl.

After the race, it was ascertained that Mr. Loo, while not seriously injured was badly cut about the neck and lace, while his body also› showed many bruises. Mr. Ho Sai Man was thrown after losing both his stirrups when the accident to Mr. Y. M. Loo took place. An official of the Jockey Club stated to Press representatives that:-

The Stewarda beld an inquiry into the riding and as a result suspended Mr. R. H. Charles from riding for the rest of the

month.

Stanley Stakes: One Kilo. Tonbridge, Tango, Dons Again and Bridge Hall were expected to fight this race out. Mr. Heard on Done Aguiu looked as if he was going to work the trick at one time. the pony being very confidently held back over the earlier stages of the race, but he disappointed in the last half mile and never looked a danger to the winner.

Tonbridge won, but over the last furlong of the race he had a neck to neck race with Tango. The last named appeared to have had the race in hand at the distance post, catching up steadily on Tonbridge. At the mile post there was not a head between the ponies and still Tango kept creeping up. Here both jockeys applied the whip, and Mr. Bulteel managed to get more res ponse out of Tonbridge than Mr. Harriman out of Tango. The race was as thrilling a one as can be

There were ten 'starters in the last race of the day and again Mr. Roza's mount was made favourite. Carnival Eve led strongly at the outset and at one time promised to run away with the race. Up the incline. however he weakened and was passed by King's Colour, who was never headed again, though from time to time several ponies came very close. Carnival Eve made a second effort in the straight and all but caught up King's Colour at one stage, but a hundred yards from home, King's Colour slowly drew away from the big spotted rean and was half a length to the good at the end.
