APOLLO BEATEN IN THE
CHAMPIONS.
MR. DUNBAR'S DERBY WINNER - ACCOUNTS FOR SHANGHAI "CRACKERJACK."
TWO FURTHER RECORDS LOWERED YESTERDAY." FULL DETAILS OF FOURTH DAY'S RACING.
[BY MORNING" DEW."]
The Champions yesterday proved to be one of the most sensational races of the meeting. The starters included Apollo, the Shanghai crackerjack who has broken two records in earlier races at the meeting and was fully expected to win. He was not only beaten, but well beaten. Mr. Dunbar's Diana Bay won handsomely, setting up a new record, and giving his supporters a good idea of speed in a China pony. President Hall beat Apollo in the last few strides and secured second place/
Mr. Heard won the Ladies' Purse on Adam, and in so doing set up a new record for the "Once Round." Miss Barbara Sulton presented Mr. Heard with the purse. His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government presented some of the other, trophies won at the meeting.
The number of records broken at this meeting, showed beyond doubt that never before in Hong Kong racing has such a fine collection of able performers been brought together, and the "Dunbar " stable is to be congratulated for winning the two principal events, the Derby and the Champions, besides annexing the Challenge Cup. Incidentally, each time the stable won, a record went by the board.
In another, column will be found the existing records as they stood at the close of yester day's racing, also details of successful owners and jockeys.
