DR. WU LIEN TEH'S TRIBUTE
. TO HONG KONG
An interesting address on the achievements of the Chinese race in other parts of the world than their own country, was given at the Ipoh Rotary Club recently by Dr, Wu Lien Teh, who was himself born in Malayo and has achieved consider- able distinction as a scientist.
Dr. Wu paid a warm tribute to the known abilities and excellent qualities of the people of mixed Chinese-European hationality, who have made a great position for themselves in Hong Kong.
In the following extracts from the speech, taken from the Straite Times, Mr. Wu's picturesque, if unorthodox phrasing has not been altered,"
The Chinese have always been adventurers whatever you may think of them. There, was a story going that America had been dis covered by Columbus. He himself did not believe that and be was supported by his visit to the Philippines where they had actual- ly found a number of porcelain pieces from the Chan and Han Dynasties, 1,000 to 1,200 years ago. USE OF ADRENAL EXTRACT
· IN U.S.
UNITED PRESS.]
San Francisco, February 15.-An- nouncement was made to-day that the United States Public Health Service will watch the treatment of hundreds of cancer patients with adrenal extract, with which Drs. Walter Coffey and John Humber, San Francisco physicians, have already treated hundreds of auffer- ers under the close observation of many leading California physicians. The discoverers of the extract have repeatedly announced that they put forward no claims for a curs. The extract apparently eliminates pain and causes a slough- ing of the cancerous growth" but the discoverers believe it to be entirely worthy of careful study and further research.

All treatments are being given free. The discoverers are declining to commercialize the extract. Lending physicians are co-operating in the work.
Meanwhile trains are daily bring- ing sufferers from all points to San Francisco for treatment.
The discoverers "have announced that they are establishing clinics in Los Angeles, Portland, Santa Bar bara and Seattle to treat all who may come with non-operatable cases, and permitting all physicians work. who care to attend to observe the

The Chinese of the island had come
to show an interest for organising their business, etc. In the zoutter of civic enterprises and other ac- tivities they found that in some respects Canton had gone far ahead of Hong Kong and yet there was no reason to blush because very often their sons were much more progressive than themselves. They made more money and adopted
more liberal ideas.
Chinese Eurasians in Hong Kong.
Talking of the Hong Kong Eurasians, Dr. Wu Lien Teh said that they were the businesmen. The most accessible businessmen were not the British or the Chinese but the Eurasian: In his opinion this was because the admixture of the two races had produced a very interesting progeny who had the best points of the British race and the best points of the Chinese race. There was not one permanent building in Hong Kong, of any size, which did not point to the Eurasiana.

WOMEN DUPED BY A SPIRITUALIST.
Remarkable disclosures of a fraud on a woman by a man described in court as an apostle of a creed known as Spiritualism" were made at Liverpool Quarter Sessions last month against Thomas James Quinn, aged twenty-eight, a cook, who was sentenced to twenty-one months, hard labour.
