The Ewo dividend was extraordi- narily good, but I hear that, owing to the deplorable state of the Shanghai share-market since the debade in December, confidence in Ewos in Shanghai has been besita tive, if not actually lacking.

Immediately the news came "out"Kufan," thas a dividend of Tla, 2 will be paid, this stock took a sharp jump locally, but the rise was short-lived. as heavy selling on the part of Shanghai brokers had the effect of bringing rates back to the point prior to the announcement of the dividend and bonus,

Owing to the unsettled state of affairs up North, both politically and as regards the share-market, one must take a very cautious view when dealing with Ewos, in spite of the fact that the shares are likely to and should-go up on the etrength of the good year's working. if for no other reason.

There was a sharp demand for Tram shares during the week, but sellers were plentiful and the de- mand was wel satisfied, so that at the close of business things were a little easier. I understand the de- mand was due to rumoured nego tintions for the 'bus service through Queen's Rond.

HONG KONG BANKS have been in big demand during the week and shares have been absolutely unob tainable, the result being an appre- ciable rise in the price of this stock. They closed with buyers at $1,370 on Saturday, and I am afraid more will have to be paid for shares by those who want them.

CHINA UNDERWRITERS were inquired for during the week, but since the announcement of the $1 call interest in this stock seem to have disappeared altogether, and shares can be obtained now 21.75.

UNIONS This stock advanced alightly during the week, and quite a few shares changed hands at rates varying between 8350 and $391. There are further buyers t the market at the latter rate.

HONG KONG FIRES have buy- era at 88, but sellers do not ap pear anxious to part with shares at This figure.

KOWLOON WHARVES. changed hands at 8157 and later at $156, closing with sellers at the latter rate, in spite of the dividend of $9 declared.
