People are always asking ma curtain of cloud. which is the funer harbour, Rio or Sydney, and I generally ansWOF "Table Bay." For I think that though Rio is the most beautiful and Sydney the prettiest, Cape Town, with its open sweep of Table Bay and the mighty mountain above it, strikes one as the finest.

I have lived there for three years, and have visited it again and again, I am never tired of seeing it.

Behind the city of Cape Town rises a great granite wall or moun tain some 4,000 feet in height, quite fiat along the top. This is Table Mountain.

On the left of it as seen from Table Bay, there stands a peak which looks as though it had been broken off from it by some giant's hand. This is called the Devil's

Peak.

Every time I have been in South E Undersigned have received Africa I have, started out from under the shadow of the great mountain and gone far across the veldt to very distant scenes, doing the work that had to be done, some- times in sunshine, sometimes in rain, sometimes well, sometimes ill.

Sometimes the work was difficult or unpleasant, sometimes ensy and delightful-it all had to be done, and then at the end of it I return- edback to the old mountain. I always-looked out for his rugged old head as I came South and felt that the trip was over only when I was back on his shoulder again...

The desirability of securing considerable stretch of wild sea- cliff as a national park was urged by Dr. Vaughan Cornish at a meet- ing of the Georgraphical Associa tion at the London School of.
