INDIAN SCHOOL PRIZE DAY.
THE FIVE GOOD SIGNS, OF EDUCATION.
There was a large number of Old Boye and triends at the Ellis Kadoctis School for Indians yester- day, when Mr. A. el Arculli gave away the prizes awarded to suc 'cessful scholars of the past year. Prior to the prize-giving ceremony, the visitors were shown round the premises and the garden which Boasta of quite a good collection of plants. One of the chief pro- ducts of the school plot is coffee, and as a gentleman said who taat. ed the beverage made from these home-grown berries:-"Very good it is, too!"
The Headmaster, Mr. A. T. Hamilton, welcomed the visitors and read the school report for the year 1920.
HEADMASTER'S REPORT.
The following extracts are taken from the Headmaster's report:~~
During the past year, the school was opened on 3 days. The maxi- mum enrolment for the your was 131, an increase of 14. over Inst year. The average attendance was 120.
Discipline continues satisfactory. This may be attributed to kome extend to our syetem of prefects, n system that has worked well since it was introduced. Corporn! proish- ment is ecarcely ever inflicted,
Studies,
At the annual examination 120 hoys were examined, and of that number 115 passed or nearly 10 per cent. It is very satisfactory to be able to report on the genera) next nces of all the written papers, a feature which may be traced to the introduction of print script The writing a few years ago, younger boys find it much easier than ordinary handwriting. It is neater and more pleasing to the same time sets eye, and at the
them a staniland of neatness which reacts on other subjects.
||
Sports.
The boys have every facility, to indulge in various forms of sport, and fall advantage is taken of these facilities. Cricket and football are undoubtedly the favourite games, and inter-class rivalry is very keen. At the Annual Athletic Sports held a few days ago we had a very 820-, cessful gathering.
At very pleasing feature in this connection is the interest taken by Old Boys, some of whom have the welfare of the school so much at heart that they are willing to come along and help in couching the boys in their various games.
.
Health,
The general henth of the school is very good indeed, there being no serious cases of illness during the. year. Physical drill is taken every morting and has a most hensficial effect. The Medical Officer for Schools visited us twice during the year, and take the opportunity of thanking her for the interest she takes in the boys and for the valu- able advice she is only too willing to give at all times. Our thanks are also due to Mr. M. A. Khan,. one of our own staff and on officer of the St. John's
Ambulance Brigade, for the trouble he took in vaccinating all the boys in the school last October.
Garden,
The school garden continues to be a source of interest. Any credit in this respect belongs to r. Hished Singh, who must feel justly proud of his success as an amateur gardener when, from time to time, he distributes the produce of the garden among the staff, boys, and frends of the school. In this con- nection our thanks are also due to Mr. A. R. Sutherland, Inspector
