Mr. R. P. Lamont, the Secretary of Commerce, has informed Pres dent Hoover that ho expects publicat and private construction work in 1930 representing a total expendi- ture of about G810,000,000,000.

Approximately G87,000,000,000 of this sum will be spent in public building and maintenance and pub lic utility construction, this figure constituting a record in American history.

The plans represent the country's answer to President Hoover's ap peal for a special effort for the con tinpanee of national prosperity.

Mr. Gens- burger might, indeed, want to make Cefendant bankrupt, but counsel did not know. The other case would take more than two or three weeks to settle as it concerned a dispute regarding payment. An offer other than cash had been made to defen dant, who had refused it.

A native of British North Borneo as brought before Mr. Grantham t Central Magistracy yesterday harged with running away from he House of Detention...

The police stated that "the man bsented himself after being commit ed to the House of Detention. He as arrested and sentenced to a onth' imprisonment, after which e was sent back to the House.

Shortly afterwards arrangements ere being made to repatriate him, heri he again disappeared. On anuary 16 he gave himself up to hé police in sick and destitute ate, and had to be detained in ospital until Tuesday.
