volume of business put through in the sbare-market fast week was very encouraging, this being due äretly to the influence of the January. Settlebent, and secondly to the near approach of Chinese New Year.

At the time of writing thero ap- pear to be as many sellers about as there are buyers, and this pro- ably explains why prices have not appreciated noticeably. Some of the business recorded was merely in adjustment of the January Settlement, but with the Chinese year coming to a close, many brokers have received orders to, sel scrip and realise cash for the end-of-the-year settlement among the Chineso

banks and bongs. Practically all local stocks came in for some attention, but Hotels, Cements, and Electrics were dealt with in bigger volume than the rest of our local stocks.

The Shanghai market, according to news received locally by brokers, is still in a state of turmoil, and the cutlook is not by any means hright. For a considerable time, it is feared, the disturbing effects of the last December Settlement will overshadow the market, and those who have invested in Shang hai stocks cannot, for the time being at least, look forward to any improvement.

No. Although you slate you can get a return of 6 per cent. this year, and possibly more in future, I do not adries you to buy this stok, as there are other helter and sounder stocks in the market with better returns. Why not think about an investment in Humphreys No. 2. According to figures of the Company, such an investment in not reasonable. There are, how ever, other things to consider.
