SLIMMING DIET.
A DOCTOR'S ADVICE. 44
The slimming cult has been badly overdone. What should have been a scientific study for the few has Become a fashion craze for the many, and lean women have vied with their plumper sisters in the
race to reduce ounces. h
This haphazard tinkering with- nature is sometimes followed by disaster, and we read in the news- papers of misguided enthusiasts who have literally slimmed them- selves out of existence.
Weight reduction must therefore ise approached along scientitic lines suitable to the individual.

"In the ease of one public-house, on the border of St. Pancras, the misconduct was so great and the re- presentations to the Bench so strong that the licensees voluntarily offered to close, and they do now close, at 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Extra police had been sent, but they found it impossible to cope with the disorder. On the Finsbury side the trams after eleven are
crowded with drunken people, and are known as the boozers' trama and the drunkards' trams.
"It is agreed that a uniform losing hour is the only remedy, and if the uniform hour in all divisions was ten o'clock, and power given to the local Bench as its discretion to extend to those public-houses in proximity to places of amusement and theatres which provided food with drink for two hours ns supper hours-namely, till 12 p.m.-the diffenity might be overcome in this

Mr. Justice Eve held that as a charity the trust was void.
He said that the question was whether Mr. Gwyon had effectively created such a charity as he con- templated-namely, a charity in the legal sense of the word. Laxity in regard to the regia tration of clubs bad resulted in de plorable night clubs in the Halborn area in the past, where the illegal sale of intoxicating liquor was carried on and misconduct was to great extent rampant in the New Compton Street area. "The regis tration of clubs should be trans- ferred," said Mr. Keen," from the police to the local justices, who should be empowered to satisfy estris. themselves as to the character of the club. A police inspector should have power to enter any premises en which intoxicating liquor is sold without first having to obtain a magistrate's warrant.
