The price of wood-oil has risen considerably. Wood-oil is import ed from Liuchow and, Nanning in Kwangs and as these places are still held by the Kwangsi troops, there has been no arrivals.

The sugar market which used to do well during the current month is disappointing. In spite of this merchants are unwilling to lower the prices. Deinand by country merchants is also slack" but,, med- chants believe that there will be a $11 revival in the near future.

Last week, large quantities of melon seeds, medicine and” shad- docks, some of the principal pro ducts of Kwangsi, were exported from Wuchow in addition to grain, fire-wood, charcoal and cattle." The importation of foreign goods, etc., however, shows no increase.

Raw silk exported from Canton in December last totalled 1.929 Phales, being the smallest monthly total for the year and a decrease of 1,159 bales the previous month." Of this amount, 1,063 bales were ex ported to France, 844 bales to "the United States and 15 bales to Great Britain. The quantity of waste silk exported during the same month was 4,203 bales (also being the amallest quantity in the past twelve months). Of this the United States took 2,800 bales, France 1,900 Lales, Italy 100 bales and Britain 100, bales.
