GOSSIP FROM THE SHARE MARKET.

INQUIRIES FOR HOTELS: LULL IN EWOS.

FREE

ADVICE FOR INVESTORS.

[Br...! KUFAN"F::

Gosip often moves the market, but no investor should either buy ur sell on market gossip only.

Rates were fairly well maintained during the past week, although business was to a measure fairly restricted. Towards the close a good demand set in for Hotels, and a fairly large businces was done in this stack

#

It has been rumoured that the Company has received

very tempting offer for one of their hotels in Shanghai, and that there is every possibility of the business transpiring. To date this is only a rumour, but apparently it is con- sidered good enough for some of our investors, and as a result we 800 a corresponding rise in the price of Hotels.

Ewas have fallen ay alightly, and the outlook between now and December Settlement is certainly nene too bright for holders of this stock. For those who can manage to hold on the best course at pre- sent is to do so. It seems that once the December Settlement is straightened out, and there is a normal state of affaire in Shang- hai, the price of Ewos should ap preciate.

HONG KONG BANKS have been neglected, und' I think shares can be obtained at $1,225. Even this rate, notice, does not appear to attract buyers.

CHINA UNDERWRITERS came to business at 82, and there are futher Lugers in the market at this rate.

UNIONS, after being neglected for quite a time, came into their own during the past week, and a number of sisares changed hands at $353 to 8359. There are further buyers at the latter rate, but" I don't this hares can be obtained at this figure, and possibly $360 will have to be paid.

STEAMBOATS-There are small buyers at $26.50.

WHARVES-There are sellers at

$145.

PROVIDENTS changed bands at 85.20 and 83.30, and closed with buyers at the latter rate.

HONG KONG HOTELS-Sales were reported as low as $9.00 to $10.as the commencement of the week, but on Friday a sudden de- mand set in, and a fairly large number of shares changed hands at 310.90 to $11.30. They closed on Friday with sellers offering shares

at 11.

HONG KONG LANDS are quiet. with buyers at $61. Sellers are asking half, a point over without getting any response from the mar

ket.

*

HONG KONG TRAMS have buyers at $18.75.

STAR FERRIES are quiet at

$70.

*

CHINA LIGHTS improved slight- ly during the work, and closed with buyem offering 816.30 for abares. Business was recorded at 216.20 and $16.30, but from what I can gather more shares are wanted at the latter rate, and sellers are not keen on parting with their holdings at $16.50.

ELECTRICS Business was done at 803.50 to 860, and closed with buyere offering 203.50 and sellers holding out for 805.75.

*

The writer will deal with each question in full and will give as detailed a reply as possible, but on the understanding that no re- sponsibility is thereby admitted.

Any question relating to the Hong Kong market or on custom and practice can be dealt with. Questions relating to the Shangani and Singapore markets will so receive attention...

Correspondents are asked to ad- Kufan," dress their queries to care of the Editor of this paper. Name and address must be en- closed, and it is esirable that a omme de plume be also given, zo that the correspondent eau renaduy pick out the answer intended for Ibim.

Those who have written in last week will find answers to their queries below:- WORRY-I don't think the "rum

gurists are right. There is a fear that the Company may have to meet some unexpected call on their funds this year, owing to an unusaal occurrence. However, I do not think the dividend will be stopped on account of this although I would not like to say it will not be reduced. Regard ing your second question, I have heard nothing regarding the like- lihood of a dividend this year. The financial position is very sound indeed, and their business is growing yearly.

FOUR POINTS-The highest price. touched by this stock was $44. but that was during the specula- tive days before the big crash in 1023. There is little change of this stock getting anywhere near that ágyre now,

INTERESTED--If you are buying eash shares, you are doing right. The shares must go up within the next six months or so. The ad vantage of buying cash shares is simply this: that you can get out at any time you wish and reatise your profit on the date of sale. For forward shares you must wait til Settlement day for the cash.

K.

The scheme is not yet put into operation, but in any case it will not concern you, and as a disinterested party you are per- fectly at liberty to hold on to your shares unices cash or a certi fed cheque is produced. These ure your rights, and if you have any doubt about your broker, exercise them.

INT. DIV.-Yes, it is the general practice for any company paying an interim dividend to pay a Enal as well, and you may confidently figure on getting one out of your holdings. I cannot say why the price of the shares have not risen, but there are

severni

stories about, and if you ask your broker no doubt he will acquaint you with the nature of some of them.

#

BINGO-There has been no mrs- sage received in Hong Kong to confirm your fears, and person- ally I do not think it likely your informant is correct. If I should hear of anything. I will publish the news in these notes.

EWOS changed hands at Tis. 14.50 to Tls. 14.60 cash, and a fair business was done in December shares at $14.55 to $14.75. On Saturday they closed with sellers at $14.00 for December, buyers only offering $14.50.
