CAN HIAWATHA WIN TO-DAY?
THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1929.
BOXING EVE'S CHANCES IN ST. ANDREW'S STAKES: GOOD RACE EXPECTED.
"PROSPECTS OF NINTH EXTRA MEETING.
TIPS AND SELECTIONS.
{BY MORNING DEW.")
Having performed the hat trick" by winning three races at his last three appearances on the course, Hiawath will undoubtedly start & list favourite for the St. Andrew's Stakes the main attraction.on the card at the Ninth Extra Race Meet- ing of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which takes place to-day.
"I feel sure Hiawatha will carry most of the money, and there seems to be little reason why he should not, unless Boxing Eve and Christ- mas Chimes are both pitted against him, in which case we should see a rattling good race.
Winsome Stag carries three pounds more than on his last appearance, and will find a big following. Young Pretonder has only 143 pounds to carry, so if he is well-mounted he should make things hum. I don't know why this pony was not gent' to have it out with Boxing Eve and the Stag at the last meeting as he is much better over six furlongs than over the mile and quarter where he was sent.
Monterey Bay is lightly penalised and should be prominent through- out as he was during the last meet- ing. Chesapeako ay looks very good to me, but the trouble with him, according to his connections, is, that he must stay behind for inest of the way, otherwise he has run wide. He will a tendency to find it hard to make up on Winsome Stag and the others in a six furlong race, if he stays behind more than a length or two. Failing this weak- ness, I think Chesapeake Bay a good bet, and even with the fail- ing mentioned I think he will get a place. "
Christmas Chimes is only, entered for the ruin event so, if he is racing at all toxiay, he will have to go in against Hiawatha. That Christmas Chimes will not have half as much Jallowing as Hiawatha srems cer- tain, but I should not be surprised in the least to see Johnny leard get very onfice out of Christmas Chines, and if he should succeed in getting the pony to run as it can run, watha will have to be on the Inokont
I don't know, at the time of writ ing, what are the plans for Boxing Eve. If he starts in the, six fur longs, his chances are admittedly rasy, and the main race wii rest between Hiawatha and Christmas Chimes, but if Boxing Eve is kept back for the St. Andrew's Stakes, we shall have a real thrill, no matter who wins.
Boxing Eve bent Coos Bay over the mile and half last year. Will he bent another representative of the Dunbar stable, Hiawatha, this year The Eve pony is full of fight at the moment, and whatever hap pens he will put up a very good performance and probably show the way into the straight. Whether he will win the event or not is pro-

The "C" Class race follows in mediately after the "A" and i spite of his failure to get a placé at the last outing, Amusement Tax looks a good thing and should just about do it. Sunshine haa' a very good chance if Mr. Harriman is in the saddle: but I understand this jockey is booked for Cavalier, in which ense -Cavalier has to be reckoned with. Armony will have a big following and will be worth- watching, and As You Like It is another probable candidate for the honours. On the while I think Amusement Tax stands the best chance, and therefore I tip him to win.
