The Welterweight Championship of the Colony will be decided in a 15-round contest between Lug. Stoker Walter Morrish and A.B. Jock Crichton, of H.M.S. Cornwall. Both men have exceptionally good records, and this bout should be particularly exciting.

and was attended by sixty ladies and gentlemen, former residents of Chica, Japan, and Hong Kong. It was presided over by Mr. J. N. Hatch, who made delightful speech, in which he stated that numerous congratulations had been received by the Committee on the formation of the Society.

After the Honorary Secretarice had dealt with the formal business of the Society," Mr. C. H. Ruther furd read out a number of sugges tions for future meetings of the members. All those present ex- pressod their delight at meeting old Fighter. Boxer.

One suggestion put for Morrish, who is the present ward was that the Society should hojder of the Championship, was furnieh förmation to China and winner of the Atlantic Fleet Welter-Japan hands who contemplated weight Championship 1923-0. In 1926. he wou on points a fight against the welterweight champ of the Brigade of Guards, and, in the same year, fought two close fights against Corporal Duncan. boxer.

Crichton, on the other hand, relies more upon his neat footwork and quick wit to carry him through. Like his opponent, his record to date is gend. He was Welterweight Champion of the West of England in 1927, when he met and defeated Patay Flynn, of Belfast. Arthur Bowen, of Exeter, Johnny Morgan (the famous Welsh champion), Boy Wills, Jim Howard, and over a score of other by no means inconsequential fighters.

On the China Station Crichton has also made a name for himself, having successfully come through some particularly keenly-contested bouts in Shanghai Inst season. He knocked out Max Jim in the seventh round in November, 1995, and, in the same month, won on points in 15-round fight with Dan Pearcy US Marines). In the following onth he won on points from Young Harry Wills, and repeated this result in a contest with Signal- man Morris.

Perhaps his best bout so far was a keen tussle with that whirlwind, cast-iron fighter. Joe Hall, the coloured champion of Shanghai.

Readers will no doubt recall that Crichton bent LS. Bowden on points here in March this year.

A SUGGESTION TO THE DIRECTORS.

the earlier letter, the correspondent goes on to state:

I think it is also generally agreed that this is in large measury, due to the "bearish and usual tactics of a certain section of brokers.

The argament may be put for ward that those who have gambled for December are only getting their deserts. but this cannot fairly be applied to a certain section of the community, who bought Ewos as in investment with a reasonable margin intending to take delivery of the shares with a proportion of bank assistance. The present sen- sational depreciation has caught most of these accounts and placed them in 1 serious predicament. This is particularly galling when it is pretty well-known that the shares are really worth much more than the present market value,

Another Interim.

"I suggest that the Ewo Director- ate have some obligation to the in- weting public including the section above referred to and that they are in a position to ease the situation considerably and incidentally de liver a sharp rebuff to those brokers who have done their best to create the present unfortunate position of the market. They can do this by immediately declaring a further and substantial interim dividend. which it is generally understood they are well able to do,"
