CRICKET NOTES.

THIS WEEK'S MATCHES.

[B "L. B. W."]

There were no league matches decided over the week-end owing to the Interport but on Saturday next, three games are down for decision, these being ILK.C.C. «, R.A., Craigengower e R.A.0.0,) and I..R.C. r. 0.8.0.0.

I am not sure whether the Club- R.A. match will come off but it should result in an easy win for the former. if it does R.A.O.C. visit the 00.C. and should come away with full points as the Valley team is not particularly strong, Civil Service juniors journey to Sookunpoo and I should not be at at, surprised if they won. The game will very probably cad in s draw.

Several friendly matches are also on the cards and as soon as the Interport is over1 believe that league cricket will be in full swing.

THE THROW-IN.

certain players to become ACCUS tomed to conforming to the smaller "points of the game, with the result that minor offences are committed. Already I have had my attention called to the incorrect methods of certain half-backs in taking the throw-in.

In times of haste a forward oc casionally takes the throw-in, very often with untoward results.

3 is very clearly stated, and much rould be gained if players only learned this law. Surely they do not make themselves conversant only with the laws which concern them most..

The first point to be observed is that the throw-in must be taken; from behind the line. This is al very ensy matter, yet we occasional- ly find it not carried out. This is probably due to the excitement of getting on with the game.

Over a Man's Head.

Next, the bull must be thrown in over a man's head. The rule does not say from behind the head, as one need only try this to find that it is almost impossible. While nd- mitting this, the rule does not allow the ball merely, to be dropped into play. On this point the referee and his linesmen are the sole judges.

I have seen players who .could throw the ball well into the field. Some have been orthodox in their methods, but by carefully watching them I have noticed that the ball has sometimes been guided by one hand and pushed by the other.

This is not in accordance with the law, which states that the ball shall be thrown in" with both hands,'

The angle of the feet to the line is iminaterial so long as the player' isfacing the field of play,' but the feet play a very important part. in the throw. Some players take the throw-in rising on their toes alter making 揽 full-knee bend. They thus increase the distance of the throw, and although they are quite correct, it is surprising how Aften such a throw causes appeals fur foul-throw."

On the Ground.

All is in order, however, for in the referee's chart it is clearly ex- plained that some

"part of both

feet must be on the ground at the moment of throwing.

It is more than one pair of eyes ean do to watch carefully all there Reveral points. So I always have a working understanding with my linesmen by which they look after the position and action of the feet, while I always observe the action of the handa By adopting this method, offences are easily detect- ed.

Players have expressed surprise at being penalised, and have asked where they erred. I invariably an- swer their questions, with the result that further errors have been avoid-|
