The system of Travellers' Cheques was,briginated, in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form" of træval currency which would give the holder. the security of letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of Jocal currency. The Company registered the chequer under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES the word 'Travellers' being spelled with ons "]". The ad antage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions. adopted the system.”
