CRICKET NOTES.

OUR REPRESENTATIVES.

D

There is, I fancy, more excitement about the publication of the Inter port cricket team than about any thing else, in the athletic world of our little Colony. The adherents of other games are perhaps as excited over their own teams, but over the cricketers Cricket selections nat alone, but footballers, hockey-ites, tennis players, golfers, and even steny baseballer or two sits up and takes notice. I must confess that when I first saw the side I was a hit surprised. Well as Alan Reid ean bowl, he had a fatal habit of bowling one long hop almost every over on the leg, and I thought that But on reflection would dish him.

realized that Reid has been im- proving steadily in his bowling all through the Trials, and was medium fast rft hander. It is true that Parker has the better. record (counting the trial H.K.C.C. game and H.K.C.C. . K.C.C.), viz., 19 wickets for 999 runs. with an aver- age of 14.81 per wicket. Reid has for 161-average 23 per wicket, Parker's batting average is 64 in four knocka, average 21. while Reid's is 48 in 3 completed innings Average 13.00. But figures are risky .things to form a judgment on, and I rather suspret that the selectors may have doubted Parker's inter- port temperament. However, I ex- pect to see him play in the next game against Malaya unless every very convincing against one is Shanghai."

I think that Anderson's selection is sound. He. Musson and Rey- nolds may be bracketed together as plavers of much the same tyne- useful bats, and fair bowlers. Rey nolds has been disappointing of late, but I am sure he will be better suited by a full three-day match than these half-day scrambles.

Echoes From Shanghai.

THE HONG KONG DAILY PRESS, FRIDAY,

We have now bad news of a second Interport trial in Shanghai and aguin the selected aide have crash- ed hopelessly. This worries me a good deal. I would rather have Sen them making hundreds, for we

new that form is not true. opposition was not particularly strong and if Donald Lench came a cropper twice, it seems to me that it wirely means he is saving it up for heral I hope we shall beat Shanghai! But I hope still more they will work off their overdue big scores against Malaya. It would be interesting to know how far their failure induced Doc. O'Hara to change his mind and come down. The Doc.'s last record here was excellent, but more for runs kept down than wickets taken. when they want fifty to go with two wickets, and the Doc. in, that I am afraid of him.

I had not heard of any mis- apprehension about the preacut leted team being only for duty versus Shanghai, ns stated in

But there roas Let us to impersona!! certainly seem to be some doubt about the arrangements. They are as follows:

GRIFFINS NAMED.

ÖVER SEVENTY PONIES REGISTERED.

[BY MORNING DEW."}

Yesterday was the closing date, for owners to nominate their subs recently drawn for, and over 70 animals have been duly named.

Some owners who are in Canton, and others who are away from the Colony, have not so far named their representatives, but no doubt in the course of the next few days, these particulars will be sent in.

The presence of such designations as "Wonderful" " Arrow," "Sunny Boy," and." Surprisu Eve" is sufficient indication of what some owners think of their ponies.

Mrs. Southorn has named her sub "Tombola," and it is to be hoped she will have better luck this year than with the skewbald Animal which she drew last season.

THE FORTHCOMING INTERPORT.

SOME OF THE PROBABLES,

Local lovers of the game are keen- ly locking forward to the Interport with Shanghai, which will be held in about three weeks' time. It is n long time since the last contest of this nature has been singed here --to be exact the year was "10233- so that unusual interest is now being

taken.

How local players will fare re ains to be scen One thing is certain that Shanghai will be 'ex- tremely strong, if Gordon Lum, Wade and Carnavarro are incläded in the team. Heng Kong's beat will have to be at their very best to stave off a third defeat in succes
