A Discreet Retreat.

We are now nearly across the face of rock, but the most difficult part of the climb is just ahead. To complete the traverse it is neces sary to jump on to a narrow moss covered ledge, and although I think I could do it, I fear for the life of my dog. A slip would mean at the very least & broken leg for me, and probably a broken neck for the fox- terrier. Regretfully, and with dif fealty, I returned along the narrow ledge.

All the victims were young women, dressed in black clothing. No motive has been disclosed to ex- plain the suicide-which police officers believe to be-nor hea anyone come forward to identify any of the victims. It seems to be a case of three women having made up their minds to die together.

Investigations are being carried out by the police in an endeavour to solve the mystery.

A later report states that it is believed the three girls came from Cantor, as some Canton coins were found in the pockets of one of them.

Bodies Identiled. Information was received late in the evening' that the bodies had been identified as those of unmas red women living at 93, Belcher Street, West Point, the names being Chun Shum Fun (3), Yee Yuk (18) and Ko Ming (17),

It was also gathered that the" bodies were in a fresh condition, which points to the belief that the suicide occurred in the course of the preceding night.

How the money will be replaced is more than he can see. Some of the taxes have been collected as much as three years in advance. Certain ly it would not be wise to collect any more!

For these and other reason Mr. Fan Ki Mo has been sent another letter of resignation to the Central Government. A recent resignation was refused by Mr. T. V.. Sir Joseph Kemp replied that the insertion of the phrase or cause to be brought made the law apply to those persuns who might attempt to evade it by getting somebody else to bring the girl into the Colony, He did not think that junk masters would be endangered unnecessarily, as the onus would be upon the Crown to prove that the person who was charged with the offence actual, ly had guilty knowledge."

His Excelledey agreed, and point- ed out to Mr. Braga that, if his line of argument was adopted, it might mean the addition of many other provisos which onerate the driver of a car or the driver of a train. He thought the

After the Legislative Council meeting concluded, a meeting of the Finer.ce Committee was presided over by the Colonial Secretary (the Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, C.M.G.), and the Supplementary Estimates, details of which appeared in our last issue, were passed.

This evening I wish to describe one of the many climbs I have taken in search of these beautiful and curious plants.

Nerve Naoded.

A Cainess barber was charged he- fore Mr. T. S. Whyte Smith at Kowloon Magistracy yesterday with assaulting a fellow-barber and caus- ing him bodily harm.

On September 28 complainant came to the defendant's shop whilst he was at work, and the defendant- who was holding a razor in bia hand-turned round, suddenly and cut the complainant rather severely. Defendant now realised the serious. neas of his action, and wished to apologise.

Sub-Inspector James told the Magistrate that the police had made enquiries and were satisfied that defendant had been assaulted by complainant who inflicted, a wound in defendant's side with a pair of scissors. He pointed out, however, that had it not been for the careful nursing and attention which com- plainant received at the hospital he would have died.
