Berlin.Five mom, each darütless nursing a secret hope that he may turn out to be another Saltenburg, n Barnowsky or a Reinhardt, madd their debut as producers at the opening of Berlin's new theatrical season. The advent of so many new theatre directors at one timo has given rise to much commend on the part of the dramatic critics, but while none of the commentatory has gone so far as to predict spectacular futures for the five mon, a are agreed that their ap pearance at this time gives promise of one of the most successful sensors in Berlin since the war,

Reinhardt's Followers.

Klein has perhaps the largest following or at least the widest re- putation of the group. He was able to build up a name for himself as the right hand man of Reinhardt and several times had been given complete charge of the Reinhardt houses in Berlim while the latter. was absent in the United States, Vienna or Salzburg.

Previously, Elein had been asso ciated with Saltenburg. About five years ago he took over the direction of the Deutsches Theatre for Rein- hardt and in one year had wiped out the deficit of a million gold marks which that house had ineur- Tho red during the inlatiom theatres which he is now operating as an independent producer includo the Deutsches Kuenstler and the Berliner.

Unlike Klein, who has always beer connected with the production end of the business, Karlheinz Mar- tin, the now director of the Volks- buchne, began his career 13 writer of comedies, becoming a stage director in Frankfurt a little over ten years ago. In 1919 he. established the Tribune" Theatre with Franz Wenzler and since then has been employed in staging im- portant plays in all the leading theatres of Borlin as well as in Vienna and Budapest.

A year ago Fie put on "The Death of Danton in a Budapest house and be selected this piece by George Buechner for his debut as the pro-- ducer" at the Volksbuchne. Martin was also at one time associated with both Barnowsky and Salten- burg.

Again, it was but a stop to a job as stage manager. It was a matter of but a few years before he took Theatre.
