SPORTS SUITS ARE DÉCORATIVE

AND PRACTICAL.

WHAT TWO HONG KONG SHOPS ARE SHEWING.

Sports suits in the autumn and winter collections look as if they would be capable of anything. They are designed to be all things to all

women.

Four and even five piece suits were shown at most of the dress shows in Paris and cousist of a long coat, cardigan, skirt, blouse, and sleeveless, jumper cut low in the neck to wear over the blouse But I Have not yet seen any of these in Hong Kong

This new fashion of combining silk blouses with low-neck sleeveless jumpers of the same material as the skirt, or else of a soft suede to tone with it, is a very good one.

You can in this way have any number of washing blouses which will make a change in your e- semble, and the jumper keeps you warm without giving a bulky effect.

Tailored Silk and Jersey,

.The washing silk or crêpe used for these blouses is the same that is used for men's shirts-the Pioneer Silk Store is a good place to purchase this type of silk-and they are usually made with high collars that are fastened by a knot

of the material with little ends that stick out smartly-men's ties are not popular or else with a Peter Fan collar. Long sleeves with cus fastened by man's links are the smartest.

The sleeveless jumper worn over them is really a revival of the sleeveless low-necked woollen jump- ers that American college girls used to wear over white shirt blouses four or five years ago.

All the sports blouses, by the way, tuck inside the skirts now.

The skirts of these suits are made with wide box pleats stitched a long way down to keep them tidy. Very often the top of the plents where they are joined to the belt are cut at angles or on zigzag lines instead of being straight across.

The most popular colours are reds and browns, particularly a deep ehneslate brown..

The newest jersey has a surface rather like fine anede, in fact you have to look closely at it to ecc that it is a knitted Inbric.

In Lane, Crawford's.." There is an excellent collection of sports wear now in Lane, Craw- ford's Ladies' Saloon. I noticed particularly some three piece suits in this suède jersey" haring well eut jumper blouses with fitting flared busques at the hips. In one model the skirt of brown and white check instens with buttons onto the hip band of the jumper, the latter being of mimosa yellow. The ne companying coat is cocoa brown trimmed with the check material. Another very smart ensemble has a well fitted jumper blouse of nigger, worn over a skirt of checked jersey in shades of burnt orange. The cont combines the two mate- rinls. A two piece suit combines a black and white cheek kirt with a white jumper.

Chez Pamela,

Che Pamela, I saw some most attractive ensembles which no one, but a Parisienne could call "sports wear." A lovely new madonna blue combined with natural beige is the colour, scheme of a three piece. em- semble of which the coat and skirt are of crêpe de chine. The jumper is woven of "natural" wool bor- dered at the neck and bem. with three bands of colour, one to match exactly the tone of the coat and skirt, a lighter blue, and between them, a band of "antique" gold thread.

Even more unusual is o two piece ensemble. The jumper is made ut mimosa yellow grepella and has three tucks at the hem running to a point over the left him and underlined with black.

PIONEER NEWS.

IFOR AUTUMN DAYS.

SPORTS WEAR AND NEW

MILLINERY.

Sports wear; as I have said in another column, is more attractive | than ever this season-while as for hats ench fresh shipment brings something new and still more chic and becoming than the last to the Dolly Vardon Hat Shop. Among those which arrived two days ago are a number of models in the new deep madonna blue,, this, winter's exquisite range of greens and, of course, browns. Felt with velvet ia in evidence, and satin finish brush- ed angora felt is certainly fast gain- ing ground.

The new sports wear is more feminine without losing the well tailored appearance of the evita Dolly Vardon was offering last sensor. Very smart indeed are two piece ensembles in a fine silk and wool mixture, made sometimes with a cripe de chine waistebat and always simulating a three piece. The smart belts and, touches of pleating, tucks or small buttons give them a more dressy" effect than one usually associates with any but the amusing French "sports wrar." Among these are several in a really exquisitely soft beige with silvery lights which is reminiscent of that lovely ring velvet used for evening gowns. A chic little suit is composed of a check black and white skirt and a white silk jumper worn under a black velvet coat. Fine wool jersey is also used to excellent effect. One attractive dress is enrried out on the new blue, a narrow pleated frill at the hem, and a wide black patent belt) provide a very smart finish. beige frock built on jumper and skirt lines is trimmed with bands of a darker brown and finished with

a reptile leather belt.

FOR YOURSELF AND THE

HOME.

I had a wander round White- away, Laidlaw's the other day and noted all sorts of things which have newly arrived and are needed by nearly every one. First was'n col- lection of fine woollen dress mate- rints. There is some quite, delight- ful tweed which is woven loosely like hopsack but is very soft to the touch. It can be had in green and beige or blue and beige. A wide choice of yiyelias also attract- ed me. Then shoes. A big ship ment of ladies' and children's shoes of an excellent Swiss make had just been unpacked. Most of the shoes have the new lowish heel," but for those that prefer them there are some smart, high heeled models. The leather or kid is in every case. beautifully soft and the shoes are well cut. One shoe liked parti cularly in beige kid has a high heel and a collar of two tones of brown.

Upstairs noticed a new range of curtain nets which run from $1 to $1.50 a yard. They cover a wide and most attractive colour range, some being all one others with one or two colours on white. Do not forget, by the way, that now is the time to get new loose
