Admiral Sir Levis Bayly, K.C.B., 5.0.3.G., C.B., C.V.O,, arrived in Shanghai last week in the Blue Funnel fine str. Menelaus.

Admiral Bayly, who is 72 years of age, will be remembered as the commander of the British and American navai forces at the Queenstown base, Ireland, during the Great War. He is making a tour of the world and during his stay he will be entertained by officers of the British and American navies who served under him,

MYSTERY OF TWO RESIGNATIONS.

Dr. J. W. Ebden, at one acting senior su geon, Penang, and nore recently Medical Offievr, Alor Star, left for England by the Mantun.

Conversing with a newspaper re porter, Dr. Ebden confirmed the runnur that he is not returning to Malaya and added that his service with the Malayan Government had beer definitely terminated. Dr. Ebden declined to answer, any fur ther questions.-

It will be remembered that in the middle of 1927, the Penang hospital visiting committee had reason for strongly criticising the conditions at the General Hospital. As a re- sul un official, report was made by Dr. Douglas and Dr. Elden, whe at that time were stationed at Penang. Three weeks later the visiting committee issued a public statement intimating their decision to resign en bloc.

Questions were asked in the Legislative Council and in answer to the question as to whether the doctors concerned would be punish- ed. Government replied that their earers would not be préjudiced.
