HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR GIVES AWAY TROPHIES TO ATHLETES..

WHAT ATHLETICS ARE DOING FOR CHINA. MR. WONG KWONG TIN'S TRIBUTE

TO BRITISH INFLUENCE.

The Chinese Athletic Ansbriation's âret athletic and aquatic meeting was brought to a clone yesterday. when His Excellency the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G.) gave away the prizes to successful competitors.

The trophies, some four hundred in number, comprising cups of all shapes and sizes, shields, medals, and pennants, were set out on the grandstand and presented a most impressive and... dazzling appearance. They were on display throughout the after- noon and were much admired by all who saw them. It is stated that the total value of the prizes given away yesterday was about $3,000.

Prior to the prize distribution, there were displays of Chinese exercises and a basket ball match.

A group photograph of the ofheials and athletes, with His Excellency the Governor, was then taken after which Mr. Wong- Kwong Tin, speaking on behalf of the Chinese Athletic Associa tion, welcomed His Excellency and called upon him to give away the prizes.
