GOSSIP ON THE SHARE MARKET.

A STEADY WEEK: ELECTRICS PROMINENT: ALL ROUND INQUIRIES AND DEMANDS.

Gossip often mover the market, but no investor should either buy a sell on market gossip only.

The past week has been very steady, and there has been no phenomenal rise in rates, except in Electrics, which attracted more attention than anything else. They had a fairly sharp jump and stares changed hands at as high a rate ne $80. They closed on Saturday at $58.50, but I think will not re- rede farther. The "boost" in the price of Electrics, however, in a bit premature and although the shares are bound to go up by the end of the year, I think investors. neid be in no hurry to buy.

CANTON TRADE: NOTES.

Some 8,270 bags of rice were im ported between the 1st and 10th inctant (inclusive). The rice mar- ket in Canton has been erratic but in Hong Kong is improving.

Prices of raw silk have advanced by several dollars, but demand is still short. Eighty bales were sold cu Sunday the quotations being No. 14/18 at H.K.8950 per picul.

Kwangsi's trade with Yunnan, Kweichow, Huaan and Hupch is very bad this year. The war in Kwangsi, and the political unrest in the above-mentioned provinces tare practically killed commerce.

The foreign sugar market has improved a little and prices are higher. There has been a better demand from bakers and factioners in view of the approach of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The market in Hong Kong has also 83.10 improved.
