The greatly increased popularity of swimming in Chinese circles has necessitated the forming of some body to control the activities of Chinese swimmers, and generally to represent their interests at public meetings. In the past a sub-com- mittes of the Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation controlled the Chinese Swimming Clubs, but about three weeks ago a new body was formed to cope with the increased work and to act as the controlling body. The Chinese Amateur Swim ming Union is the name of the new body, and I feel sure its formation

My Chinese friends, who disap pointed their supporters (of whom I was one) at the last team race, tell me that they are more optimistic. about their chances at the forth- coming meeting. With teams of six they have as good a chance as any- body else, and in the words of one of their stalwarts, the feeling is, "If we don't win, we will put up 4 good fight."
