"The Furiem o Wekkie Cheches, was originated in 1991 by the American Krpress Company with the object of creating a form of travel curzney which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the same time the oostenience of loes! currency. The Company registered the cheques under the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS' CHEQUES' the word 'Travellers' being spelled with one "1". The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other backing institutions adopted the system.”
